Pet Food Made From Home

Making your own homemade dog food really isn't as hard as you may think. Once you being your blends and mixtures, you will wonder why you didn't think of this sooner! It is a win-win situation, your dog can be happy and well-feed, and you can save lots and lots of money.

The food that you make at home for your dog will be healthier compared to the pet food that you get from the store. There is a possibility that your dog may enjoy the home made food more than the tinned and dry pet food.

Early on, it may require some extra patience and time as you get used to understanding what your dog likes and fancies, and what he doesn't like. Some dogs are picky eaters, and they just can't be forced to eat anything that isn't their perfect meal.

Making homemade dog food requires a lot of patience. You'll have work by trial and error with your dog's food, sadly he can't write you a review, and it's hard to know except by experimenting what ingredients he might be objecting to. Be sure and prepare small quantities, no sense wasting ingredients on a meal your dog will walk away from.

Start with the basics. What will be your main ingredient? Most pet food found in stores will have some type of meat in it, whether it be chicken, beef, or something else. Dogs do need meat. They are omnivores, but meat is their primary food group. If your pet is overweight, you can choose lean cuts or trim the fat off what you buy. But remember: some fat is actually good for any dog.

You might think to begin your recipe hunting for home made pet food on the labels of commercial offerings. But with most brands of pet food, you'll be out of luck looking there, unless you check the labels of the highest priced premium quality pet foods. While we're on the subject, home made dog food will be much less expensive than buying the premium brands that are touted as good for your pet. So start experimenting, and let your imagination be your guide. Your dog will love you for it.

Dogs may enjoy homemade dog food better than store bought pet food. It will take a little patience to discover what they enjoy but it is a lot healthier for your dog and generally will cost less than a high quality dog food does. You do not have to buy lean cuts of meat from the store unless your pet is overweight because a little fat is good for them. If you need to use dog food as a guide look only at high quality brands like solid gold dog food. So, just be patient and try a few different recipes your dog will find one he likes.
