I Think My Dog Might Have Ear Mites

Earmites make dogs and cats miserable. They feed on the epidermal waste. If you have dogs in your home, or if you take care of dogs, you should be aware of the possibility of these critters.

They are large enough to be seen most of the time by the naked eye. With a magnifying glass, you could see them easily. You may possibly notice that your dog has been scratching at his ears often, or is behaving strangely. If your dog scratches, and sometimes even if he doesn't, he can develop a serious yeast infection.

If you dog has ear mites, you might see a brown discharge in or around his ears. The discharge appears because dog ear mites stimulate the production of ear wax. So if you're noticing a build up, it may be time to get your dog checked out.

You can tell yourself if your dog has ear mites, simply by using a cotton swab to gently remove some of the wax from your dog's ear. Examine this wax under a magnifying glass and you can easily tell if there are mites living in your dog's ear.

It is very important to get your dog treated right away if he has ear mites. Besides the fact that they can really make your dog positively miserable, they are very dangerous and can cause your dog's ear drum to rupture and cause seizures and even death.

As adults, they are quite mobile and can easily spread from one animal to the other. If your dog has them, your other pets may have them too. Be sure that you inspect your other animals for the signs of ear mites too.
